Lesson vocabulary

WordsDefinitions
nucleus A(n) organelle that controls all of the activity of the cell
vacuoles Organelles that store water, food, and wastes
microscope An instrument that magnifies objects
cell The smallest unit of a living thing that can carry out the basic processes of life.
cell wall An additional layer around plant cells that provide extra support
mitochrondria Orgnaelles that break down food and turn it into energy the cell to use.
cell membrane A layer around the outside of a cell
chloroplasts Green organelles in plant cells that turn energy from sunlight into food.
cytoplasm a gel-like substance that supports all of the organelles inside the cell membrane
