Chapter 00005
Matter in Motion
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is Speed? | The distance traveled divided by the time interval during which the motion occured. |
| What is Motion? | An object's change in position relative in a reference point. |
| What is Acceleration? | The rate at which velocity changes over time; an object accelerates if it's speed, direction,or both change. |
| What is Velocity? | The speed of an object in a particular direction. |
| What is Force? | A push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object; force has size and direction. |
| What is Net Force? | The combination of all of the forces acting on an object. |
| What is Newton? | The SI unit for force. |
| What is Friction? | A force that opposses motion between 2 surfaces that are in contact. |
| What is Gravity? | A force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses. |
| What is Mass? | A measure of the amount of matter in the object. |
| What is Weight? | A measure of the gravitaional exerted on an object; it's value can change with the location of the object in the universe. |
