What are communities? All different populations in an area.
What are ecosystems? all the living and non living populations
What are the 3 energy roles in an ecosystem? Producer, consumer & decomposer
What is the primary Producer of energy? Sunlight
Define consumer can't make own food, feeds off other organisms
Define herbivore only eats plants
Example of a herbivore deer, rabbits, caterpillars
Define carnivore only eats other animals
Example of a carnivore wolves, eagles, hawks
Define omnivore eats both plants and animals
Example of a carnivore crows, bears, humans
Define decomposer break down waste and dead organisms & returns the raw materials to the ecosystem
Example of decomposer mushrooms, bacteria and mold
How does energy move through an ecosystem? From one organism to another organism

Define food chain only one path of smaller organism being eaten by larger organism
Define food web many over lapping food chains. more realistic for an ecosystem
