Vocabulary on Food Chain

What is a producer? An organism that makes something. Like trees, grasses and the sun.
What is a carnivore? An animal that feeds on flesh
What is a consumer? An organism within a community that feeds upon plants or other animals
What is a decomposer? An organism that decomposes organic material. Like soil, bacteria, or fungus
A series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food is an example of what? food chain
What is a herbivore? An animal that feeds on plants.
An individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form is called what? An organism
What is biotic? Living factors in the environment, like plants and animals.
What is abiotic? Nonliving factors in the environment, such as weather, soil, and temperature
What is a heterotroph? An organism that gets its energy from a source outside of itself
What is an autotroph? An organism that makes its own energy
