kinetic energy and potential energy kinetic:doing work. potential: stored.
exergonic reactions and endergonic reactions exergonic: release energy. endergonic: consumes energy.
reactants and products in a chem reaction, reactants are changed into products.
atp and adp ADP: phosphorilated, producing ATP. ATP: gets hydrolyzed (a phosphate group is removed) and ADP is produced.
a reaction without an enzyme and a reaction with an enzyme Enzymes lower the energy of activation for a reaction, so the reaction with an enzyme requires less energy to get it started than the reaction without the enzyme.
photosynthesis and cellular respiration Photosynthesis: energy of sun is used to make glucose from carbon dioxide and water. Cellular Respiration: Oxygen and glucose combine, and the energy in the glucose is used to make ATP
first and second laws of thermodynamics First law: energy can be transferred or transformed but not created or destroyed. Second law: energy changes are accompanied by an increase in disorder, or entropy.
mechanical, transport, and chemical work Mechanical: movement of cell or body. Transport: moving substances through cell membranes. CHemical work: building molecules.
