TermDefinition
Ellipse is a curve that is longer than it is wide
Major axis the distance of a line across the long length of an ellipse.
Minor axis the distance of a line across the short length of an ellipse.
Regular Polygon is a plane figure bounded by 3 or more equal straight sides, with the adjoining sides forming equal angles.
Inscribed - regular polygon is drawn inside the imaginary circle. The distance across the corners of the polygon is equal to the diameter of the circle.
Circumscribed regular polygon is drawn outside the circle. The distance across the flats is equal to the diameter of the circle.
Surveyor's units utilize angles measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds in North, South, East, & West
Contours represent the height of the ground above sea level
Plat a map used to show the boundaries of a piece of land and to identify it
Cut the amount of earth removed to change the contour of a piece of land
Fill earth supplied and put in place to change the contour of a piece of land
Map Drafting is mostly associated with... Civil Engineering
Setback Zoning law that restricts the distance permitted from any building to the property line.
Survey Shows the exact size, shape, and levels of a piece of property.
Benchmark A point of known origin used a reference in determining other points in a survey.
American System of Surveying Uses surveyor's angles measured in degrees, minutes, & seconds from North & South.
