weathering surface processes that work to break down rock materials are called weathering.
mechanical weathering the process of which rocks are broken down phycally.
ice wedging occurs in cold climates when water enters the rock, freezes, then cracks.
chemical weathering occurs when chemical reactions disolve the rock.
oxidation occurs when some materials are exposed to oxygen and water.
climate is the pattern of weather that occurs over a period of time.
soil is a mixture of weathered rock
humus a source of nutrients for plants.
