classification adrenergic agonist, inotropic, vasopressor
action primarily alpha-mediated vaso constriction= increased BP & coronary blood flow. beta action=inotropoic stimulation and dilation of coronary arteries
indications cardiogenic shock, septic shock, severey hypotension
adverse effects dizziness, anxiety, caridac arrhythmias, dyspnea, exacerbation of asthma
contraindications MAOIs, known sensitivity
dosage adult: 4mg in 250ml of D5W or D5NS, but not normal saline alone. 0.5-1mcg/min, titrated to BP. peds:0.05-2 mcg/kg/min
