Drug-Dopamine/Inotropin

classification adrenergic agonist, inotropic, vasopressor
action stimulates alpha and beta adreergic receptors. low doses stimulate beta, higher doses stimulate alpha
indications hypotension, decreased cardiac output associated with cardiogenic shock adn septic shock, or symptomatic brady w/ no response to atropine
adverse effects tachycardia, arrhythmias, skin and soft tissue necrosis, severe hypertension from excessive vasoconstriction
contraindications pheochromocytoma, VT, VF. correct hypovolemia w/fluid replacement first!
dosage adults & peds: 2-20mcg/kg/min (start at 5 & titrate to BP
