Class Isotonic Crystalloid Solution
Mechanism of Action Normal saline replaces water and electrolytes.
Indications Heat-related problems (heat exhaustion, heat stroke), fresh-water drowning, hypovolemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, keep open IV.
Contraindications The use of 0.9% sodium chloride should not be considered in patients with congestive heart failure as circulatory overload can be easily induced.
Adverse Reactions Rare in theraputic dosages.

Incompatabilities/Drug Interactions Few in emergency setting
Dose/Route In severe heat stroke, diabetic ketoacidosis, and fresh water drowning, it is likely that you will be called upon to administer the fluid quite rapidly. In other cases it is advisable to administer the fluid at moderate rate (for example, 100ml/h)
