| Intestinal Obstruction: | It can be mechanical or non-mechanical. Partial or complete obstruction that prevents the GI from passing. |
| Fluid and Electrolyte & Acid/base imbalances | High at the small intestine results in metabolic alkalosis. Small bowel movement indicates dehydration. |
| Manifestations: | Ab pain, distention, tender ab, high pitched sounds above, N & V. |
| Diagnostic studies: | Ab x-ray, barium enema, BUN, CBC & electrolytes. |
| Treatment: | Nasogastric decompression of the GI to remove gas/fluids. Correct and maintain fluid & electrolytes. IV N/S & potassium. |
