Chapter 4

QuestionAnswer
Tissue collection of cells of same type to perform a common function
WHat are the 4 types of tissue? connective, muscle, epithelial, and nervous
Connective tissue binds and supports parts of body
Ground substance noncellular and ranges from solid to fluid
___ _____ and protein fibers together make up movement of tisse ground substance
3 types of connective tissue fibrous, supportive, and fluid
Bone cells are in lacunae; matrix is solid and rigid; made of collagen and calcium salts
2 types of bone? compact and spongy
Compact bone made of reporting circular units called ostens found in shafts of long bone
Spongy bone open latic work with irregular spaces found in ends of long bones
cartlidge cells are in hambers called laconae
3 types of cartlidge? hyaline, flastic, and fibrocartlidge
Hyaline cartlidge fine collagen fibers found-nose (long or end bones)
Flastic cartlidge more elastic fibers found in outer ear
Fibrocartlidge strong collagen fibers found in disks between vertebrae
Blood made of a fluid matrix called plasma and cellular components that are calle formed elements
3 formed elements of blood: red blood cells, whit blood cells, and platelets
Red blood cells cells that carry oxygen
White blood cells cells that fight infection
Platelets pieces of cell that clot blood
Lymph fluid matrix; white blood cells congregate in this tissue
Muscle tissue allows movement in the body ;made of muscle fibers, cells ,and protein fibers called actin adn myosin
3 types of muscle tissue? skeletal, smooth, and cardiac
