What is motion? a change in position
What is position? the location of an object
What is distance? the length between two places
What is speed? how fast an object moves over a certain distance
What are forces? They are all pushes and pulls. They work in pairs.
What is gravity? a pulling force between two objects
What is weight? how much pull gravity has on an object
What is friction? the force that occurs when one object rubs against another.
What is work? when a force changes the motion of an object
What is energy? the ability to do work
What is a simple machine? used to make work easier
What is a machine? a tool to make work easier
What is a lever? a straight bar that moves on a fixed point
What is a wheel and axle? a simple machine has a wheel that turns on a post
What is a pulley? a simple machine that uses a wheel and a rope
What is a ramp? another name for an inclined plane
What is an inclined plane? a flat surface that is raised at one end
What is a wedge? two inclined planes placed back-to-back
What is a screw? an inclined plane wrapped into a spiral
What is a compound machine? two or more simple machines put together
