QuestionAnswer
Pause When someone stops speaking for an amount of time.
Fillers Sounds like 'um' or 'er'.
Phatic Utterances A meaningless phrase.
Overlaps When two people speak at the same time.
Interruptions When one person starts speaking before another is finished.
Hedges Words used to fill gaps in conversation such as 'like'.
Repairs Starting to say one thing but then stopping and saying something different.
Terms of Address Different ways of referring to someone other than their name.
Courtesy Items Polite terms such as 'thank you'.
Slang Informal language, often shortened forms of words.
Repetition Repeating words or phrases.
