Auricle outer funnel like structure which helps to collect sound waves traveling through the air and to direct them to the ear canal or exernal auditory meatus
External Auditory Meatus ear canal, s-shaped tube (ear canal) directing sound waves to the eardrum
Tympanic membrane eardrum, moves back and forth in response to pressure exerted on it by sound waves and thus produces the vibrations of the sound wave source
Middle ear air filled space in temporal bone
Malleus, incus, stapes the three ear ossicles or ear bones, connect eardrum to inner ear. They vibrate and then create movement in inner ear fluid.
Semicircular canals provide the sense of equilibrium contributing to balance
Vestibular nerve carry nerve impulses to the temporal lobe of the brain for interpretation
Cochlea primary ear part functioning in hearing by conversion of sound waves into nerve impulses
Organ of Corti contains hearing receptors called hair cells, which function like neurons converting sound waves into nerve impulses.
