Hormone study 5

Hormone study guide question 5

QuestionAnswer
Human Growth Hormone (hGh) (most abundant antrior pituitary hormone)Promote synthesis and secreation of small protein hormones (IGF)
Insulinlike growth factors (IGF) Some of there actions are similar to thoes of insilin.
Growth Hormone releasong hormone (GHRH) Promotes secreation of human growth hormone.
Growth hormone-inhibiting Hormone(GHIH) Suppresses it.
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) Stimulates the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland.
Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) From the hypothalamus controls TSH secretion.
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) (ovaries are the target) Each month FSH initiates the development of several ovarian follicles.
Loteinizing Hormone (LH) (triggers ovulation) stimulates formation of the corpus luteum in the overy and the secreation of progesterone by the corpus luteum.
Gonadotropin-realeasing hormone (GnRH) suppresed by estrogens in females and by testosterone in males through negative feedback systems.
Prolactin (PRL) with other hormones, initiates and maintaining milk production by the mammary glands.
Prolactin-inhibiting hormone (PIH) Suppresses realeasing of prolactin.
Prolactin-releasing hormone (PRH) Stimulates the releasing of prolactin
Oxytocin During and after labor delivery has 2 targets mothers uterus and breasts. During labor it enhances contraction of smooth muscle cells in the wall of the uterus, after delivery it stimulates milk ejection from mammery glands.
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) Causes the kidneys to retain more water, thus decreasing urin volumes (also called vasopressin luase= vessel, pressin= pressing) which increases blood preasure.
Thyroid hormones (t3 & t4) T4 circulates in the blood and enters through out the body. Most is converted into T3 by removal of one iodine atom.
Glucagon Increase blood gucose level when it falls below normal which provides nerons with glucos for ATP production.
Insulin Helps glucose move into cells, especially mucsle fibers, which lowers blood glucose level when it is too high.
Cortisol Blood level
Epinephrine Hormone secreated by the adrenal medulla that produces actions similar to those that result from sympathetic stimulation.
Norepinephrine Hormone secreated by the adrenal medulla that produces actions similar to those that result from sympathetic stimulation.
Estrogen Feminizing sex hormones produced by the ovaries.
Progesterone female sex hormone produced by the endometrium of they uterus for implantation of a fertilized ovum and the mammary glands for milk secretion.
