What are the four most common type of map projections? Cylindrical Azimuthal Conic and Miscellaneous projections
What are the advantages of a Cylindrical Projection? Shows direction accuratly?
What are the advantages of an Azimuthal projection? Show shortest distance between two points?
What are the advantages of a Conic projection? They are very accurate over a small area?
What are the characteristics of a Cylindrical projection? Lines of longitute appear parallel. Lines of lattitude get father apart as lattitude increases.
What are the characteristics of an Azimuthal projection? Creates pie looking slices (longitude) circles with lattitude Longitude lines get further apart toward the edge of the map.
What are the characteristics of a Conic projection? Lattitude lines apear to be gently curving, while lines of longitude apear to converge.
What are the disadvantages of a Cylindrical projection? Higher lattitudes land appear larger than they really are, size and distance distorted
What are the disadvantages of a Conic projection? Has the area direction and shape distorted. These characteristics are true only in portions of map.
What are the disadvantages of an Azimuthal projection? Scale and land distortion increases as you move away from the center of the map
