QuestionAnswer
Chromatin The DNA and proteins in the nucleus of a non-dividing cell "uncoilded and spread out"
Chromosomes The DNA and proteins in a divided cell coiled and rod shaped.
DNA Stores information, organic compound, polymer, mad of monomers.
Prokaryotic Cell No nucleus, DNA free floating "one circular"
Humans have how many Chromosomes 46 (23 pairs)
Sex chromosomes Determine the sex in humans.
Autosomes Chromosomes other than sex chromosomes. Humans have 22 pairs.
Homologous chromosomes Chromosomes that are the same
Karyotype Photo micrograph of chromosome of a dividing cell.
Asexual without sex
Cell Cycle Set of events that make up life of a cell.
Interphase Period of the cell cycle between cell division. Normal cell activity, cell grows, DNA duplicates.
Mitosis Part of the eukaryotiuc cell division during which the cell nucleus divides.
Cytokinesis Division of cytoplasm during cell division. (fluid)
Prophase Nuclear membrane breaksdown, DNA coils, spindle fibers form.
Metaphase Chromosomes are lined up at the EQUATOR. Centromeres attached to spindle fibers.
Anaphase Centromere duplicates and splits. Sister chromatids migrate to opposite poles.
Telophase Nuclear membrane reforms. DNA uncoils.
Meiosis Process of nuclear division that reduces the number of chromosomes in a new cell to half the original number.
Asexual No joining of sex cells, so without sex.
Sexual Joining of sex cells, so with sex.
Human Chromosome # 46
Human Homologous Chromsome # 23
Fertilization Joining of gametes
Zygote The resulting body formed by the joining.
Diploid # Cell with a full set of chromosomes.
Haploid # Half of the dipiold number.
Spermatogensis Process where sperm is produced in testes with half chromosome number
Oogenesis The process where eggs are produced in the ovaries.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
