Types of Asexual Rep

Terms used when discussing the 6 types of asexual reproduction

QuestionAnswer
Sporulation A form of asexual reproduction in which a reproductive cell called a spore is formed and distributed.
Budding A type of asexual reproduction where new organism develps as an outgrowth of the parent organism. It is characterized by an equal division of the nucleus and an unequal division of the cytoplasm.
Regeneration The development of a new organism from a part of the parent organism, or the regrowth of a lost body part.
Vegetative Propagation A form of asexual reproduction in which a new plant is grown from a piece of the original plant.
Binary Fission A form of asexual reproduction characterized by an equal division of both the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
Cloning A process by which a genetically identical copy of an organism is created in the laboratory.
Asexual Reproduction A form of reproduction in which there is only one parent and the offspring are genetically identical to the parent and each other.
Spore A an asexual reproductive cell that will develop into a new organism (fungus, fern or moss) that is genetically identical to the parent organism.
