What is ecological succession? The change in an ecosystem that ahppens when one communtiy repalces another as a result of changing abiotic and biotic factors.
What is the difference between an element and a compund? Element-Pure substance that only contains one type of atom. Compound-is a pure substance formed when 2 or more different elements combine.
What is a electron? Negatively charged particles
What are protons? Positvely charged particles.
What are neutrons? Neutral charged. (No charge)
What is a netural atom? Has no charge
What is a covalent compound? When 2 non-metals chemically bond they share electrons
What is a ionic compound? When a active metal & non-metal bond.
What is a polar molecule? A molecule that have unequal distribution of charges.They have oppositely charged regions.

Describe the pH scale. Used to indicate the relative strength of acids & bases. Amount of hydrogen ions (H+) in a solution.
What is a solution? The process of forming a mixture. 2 components (Solvente-water & Solute-kool aid) Homogeneous
What do enzymes do to chemical reactions? They speed up the rate of chemical reations in biological processes.
What is an ion (Ionic bond)? An atom or group of atoms that have activated a not electric charge
What is the difference between products & reactants? Products- the substance formed during the reaction. Reactants- the starting substances (Reactants-Products)
Where is water located in the phospholipid bilayer? Where is water not located? Polar head-likes water / Non polar tail-hates water
What is the purpose of cholestrol in the phospholipid bilayer? Prevents fatty acid tails from sticking together.
What cell organelle converts sugars into energy? Mitochondria
What cell organelle packages proteins? Endoplasmic recticulum / Golgi apparatus (Check)
What is osmosis? Diffusion of fluid through a selectively permeable membrane.
Which organelle transfers energy from the sun to usable energy? Chloroplast
Which structure synthesizes protein? Ribosomes
What does selectively permeable mean? A Passage that allows only certain substances pass through, like a fish net.
What are the 3 parts of the cell theory? #1 All living things are composed of cells. #2- Cells are the samllest working units in living things. #3- All cells come from preexisting cells.
Difference between Passive Transport & Active Transport. Movement of particles across the cell membrane. Passive-NO Energy / Active-WITH Energy
What do cilia do in cells that do not move? Short, numerous projections that look like hairs
What do Flagella do in cells that do not move? Long create movement with a whiplike motion (Sperm)
What is used for energy in the cell? Chemical energy in the form of AtP (Check)
