eye piece Part that viewer looks through and contains a lens that magnifies the object by 10 times
Objective Lens Various lenses used to magnify the object Low power – shortest lens it magnifies 4 times. Medium power – magnifies 10 times, High power – longest lens that magnifies 40 times.)
Stage Platform on which a slide is placed
Glass Slide Piece of glass or plastic that holds object to view
Cover Slip Very thin piece of glass that covers object to be viewed.
Diaphragm Controls amount of light entering the lens
Base Bottom that supports the microscope and helps keep it steady.
Fine Adjustment Knob Raises and lowers the stage by small amounts with each turn. Used after the coarse adjustment knob to focus.
Coarse Adjustment Knob Raises and lowers the stage by large amounts with each turn. Used first to focus.
Stage Clip Holds the slide in place
Arm Curved part of frame used to carry the microscope.
