What fibers are mineral? Glass, asbestos.
What fibers are from animals? silk, wool, fur.
What fibers are Veggie? cotton, linen, hemp.
What fibers are synthetic? rayon, nylon, acetate.
Cortex the largest portion of the shaft giving you the hair color that you have.
Cuticle The layer of cells that cover the surface of the shaft.
Medulla cells that fun down the center of the cortex like a canal. Central core of hair.
Tricholody The study of hairs.
Coronal crownlike
Spinous Petal like.
Imbricate Flattened
Medullary Index Width of hair relative to width of medulla
Human Medullary index around 0.3
Animal medullary index greater than 0.5
burn tests? residues, beading, smoke, characteristic odors.
Solvent/ Solubility test? HCl, NaOH, bleach, acetone, dry cleaning solvent.
Stain test? will blood stain the cloth? Will blood bead off? Is this lipstick.
Microscopic Tests? Weave, braids, folds, twists, translucency, fraying.
Two most common collection methods? Tape and Vacumming methods.
