Reflect&Refract
Science 8 Reflection and Refraction vocabulary
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What is reflection? | The process by which light strikes a surface and bounces off that surface. |
What is the incident ray? | The ray of light that comes from a light sources and strikes the surface. |
What is the reflected ray? | The ray of light that bounces off of the surface. |
What is the normal (or normal line?) | An imaginary line perpendicular to the reflecting surface. |
What is the angle of incidence? | The angle between the incident ray and the normal. |
What is the angle of reflection? | The angle between the reflected ray and the normal. |
What does it mean if a surface is referred to as a plane? (like a plane mirror) | It has a flat surface |
What is the Law of Reflection? | The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. |
What is a convex surface? | One that is curved or domed out. |
What is a concave surface? | One that is caved in. |
What is refraction? | The bending of light when it travels from one medium to another of different density. |
What is the angle of refraction? | The new direction of the light when it refracts. |
