Mohs hardness scale is a scale that ranks ten minerals from softness to hardest
Crystal is the repeating pattern of a minerals particles that forms a solid
Alloy is a solid mixture of two or more elements at least one of which is a metal
Solution is a mixture in which one substance is dissolved in another
Streak a mineral is the color of its powder
Ore is a rock that contains metal of other useful mineral that can be mined at a profit
Mineral is a naturally occurring inorganic solid that has crystal structure and a definite chemical composition
Vein is a narrow channel or slab of a mineral that is different from the surrounding rock
Geode is a round, hollow rock that is often lined with minerals
Inorganic means a mineral cannot form from materials that were once part of a living thing
Smelting is a process when an ore is mixed with other substances and then melted to seperate the useful metal from other elements the ore contains
Cleavage is when a mineral splits easily along flat surfaces
Crystallization is the process by which atoms are arranged to form a material with a crystal structure
Luster is the term used to describe how light is reflected from a minerals surface
Gemstone is a hard colorful mineral that has a brilliant or glassy luster
Fracture describes how a mineral looks when it breaks apart in an irregular way
