Gills Remove oxygen from water and exanges it for carbon in the fish's blood.
swim bladder Allows the fish to float high or low
lateral line An organ in the sensory system that allows fish to sense objects and organisms that are near by
operculum the gill cover of fishes and amphibians.
Examples of fish (3) Jawless fish, Bony Fish, Cartilaginous fish
scales One of the thin, small overlaping plates that cover most fish and reptiles and some other animal.
egg yolk Part of the egg that provides food for the growing baby in the egg.
Characteristics of amphibians Adults:They have two pairs of legs,they lay their eggs in water,they obtain oxygen through their skin,many have lungs,and their sensory organs are adapted for sensing on land. Young:They live in water, and they breathe with gills.
tadpoles The larvae of frogs and toads
metamorphosis The transformation of an animal from its larval form into its adult form.
Examples of amphibians salamanders, frogs, toads
ectotherm Animal whose body temperature changes with environmental conditions
Characteristics of reptiles Have two pairs of legs (four limbs), have tough, dry skin covered with scales, optain oxigen from air using lungs, have sensory organs adapted for sensing on land and lay eggs with hard or leathery shells on land.
Examples of reptiles Snakes, Turtles, Crocodiles, Geckos, lizards ...
keratin A tough, insoluble protein substance that is the chief structural constituent of hair, nails, horns and hooves.
Characteristics of birds they have feathers and a beak, four limbs: a pair of scaly legs and a pair of wings, their eggs have hard shells, and they are endotherms.
endotherm animals that maintain a constant body temperature
incubation The process of birds sitting on their eggs to keep them alive and warm
Examples of Birds Hummingbird, Kiwi, Ostrich, Penguin, Parakeet, Eagle etc...
Characteristics of mammals Have hair,specialized teeth,and produce milk to feed their young.They live on land or in water.
mammary glands The glands that produce milk in female mammals.
endoderms The innermost layer of an embryo that forms the digestive tract of an animal
gestation The time when a mammal is developing inside it's mother's body.
placenta A special organ that transports nutrients,water,and oxygen from the mother's blood to the developing embryo.
examples of mammals mice,dogs,bats,dolphins,humans...
