QuestionAnswer
membrane pumps protein molecules embedded in the cell membrane that transport molecules across the cell membrane against the concentration gradient.
Endocytosis the process in which cells bring the process in which cells bring large molecules inside by surrounding them with the cell membrane and forming vesicles.
Exocytosis the process in which cells package materials into vesicles using the Golgi apparatus, and expel the vesicles from the cell.
diffusion involves the movement of material across the cell membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
facilitated diffusion a type of diffusion that uses special transport proteins to transfer larger molecules across cell membranes.
osmosis a type of diffusion that specifically involves the movement of water.
filtration involves the movement of water and solute molecules across the cell membrane due to hydrostatic pressure.
osmosis the movement of water molecules across the cell membrane. Water moves down a concentration gradient from areas of high water concentration to areas of low water concentration.
cells consist of smaller pieces called.. organelles
give examples of organelles Cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, vacuole, mitochondrion, endoplasmic reticulum, nucleus and chloroplast
cytoplasm a suspension fluid that houses the other organelles
cell membrane or can also be called? plasma membrane
plasma membrane acts as a boundary layer around the cytoplasm thus separating cells from their outside environments
the cell wall is a? vacuole
what does a vacuole do? stores water and ingested food in a fluid sack
what is another membrane organelle lysosomes
what do lysosomes contain? enzymes specialized to break down ingested materials, secretions, and wastes.
were do waste go threw? golgi apparatus
the nucleus is like the... brain
chromatin is... composed for long, thin strands of DNA which contains “instructions” that control cell metabolism and heredity
Ribosomes are RNA and protein complexes that are found in all cells
mitochondria acts.. like a stomach for the cell
chloroplast are... the food producers in a plant cell
The endoplasmic reticulum ________ chemicals ______ and within cells. The endoplasmic reticulum transports chemicals between and within cells.
Do Plant cells and animal cells contain the same cellular structures? No, Plant cells and animal cells contain different cellular structures

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
