Cells

QuestionAnswer
1. Cells The basic units of structure and function in living things.
2. Organelles “Organs” of a cell. They are groups of complex molecules that help cells survive
3. Examples of organelles Cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, vacuole, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, nucleus and chloroplast.
4. Cell Membrane It acts as a bondary layer around the cytoplasm thus separating cells from their outside enviroments.
5. Cell Wall It provides protection from physical injury and provides structural support.
6. Cytoplasm Is a suspension fluid that houses the other organelles.
7. Vacuole This stores water and ingested food in a fluid sack.
8. Mitochondria They take in nutrients, break them down and create energy for the cell.
9. Endoplasmic Reticulum Transports chemicals between and within cells.
10. Nucleus The "brain" of the cell. It contains chromosomal information on chromatin.
11. Chloroplasts Are the food producers in a plant cell.
12. Plant Cell consist of.. Chloroplast, Cell wall, Big vacoule, Mitochondria, Goglie Apparatus, Nucleus, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes, and Cell Membrane.
13. Animal Cell consist of.. Mitochondria, Golgi Apparatus, Nucleus, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes, Cell Membrane, and Lysosome. Sometimes there are small vacoules.
14. Cell Organization Multicellular organisms are made up of differentiated cells that are organized in specific ways to perform specialized functions.
15. Tissue Interconnected cells
16. Organ Is a group of tissues that work together to perform a specifice function.
17. Organ System Composed of organs with interrelated functions.
18. Levels of Organization Cells -> Tissues -> Organs -> Organ Systems
19. Difference between the plant and animal cell.. The plant cell has a big vacoule, chloroplast and a cell wall. The animal cell have lysosomes.
20. Who has cells? Every living thing.
21. Golgi Apparatus Waste disposal and also processes, sorts, and modifies proteins in cells.
22. Ribosomes They are RNA and protein complexes that are found in all cells
23. Chromatin Composed of long, thin strands of DNA which contains “instructions” that control cell metabolism and heredity.
24. Lysosomes Contain enzymes specialized to break down ingested materials, secretions, and wastes.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
