what should you never do in a lab? eat,smoke,drink.never put any lab equipment to your mouth.
clothing hazards. avoid wearing excessivels loose clothing and jewerly.long hair should be tied back.do not wear sandals or open toe shoes.
why is it important to come to a lab prepared? uncertainty can be dangerous,if you are not sure about a procedure ask your instructor before beginning.
what should you do if you see spills,broken glass or personal injuries? immediately report it to your instructor.
eye protection safety glasses with side shields or goggles.most school labs require the use of eye protection.
clothing lab coats or aprons when indicated.never wear lab coats or aprons outside of the lab.always wear closed-toe shoes in the lab
gloves protective gloves for handling chemicals.always wear gloves when working with potentially infectious living organisms.
what purpose do fume hoods serve? a vaccum to remove harmful chemical fumes so that scientists do not inhale the vapors.
what should you never do without wearing safety goggles? use a heat source,use a candle or heat burner.
why should you never mix chemicals? you might produce a dangerous,possibly expolsive substance
why should you never taste or smell a chemical? many chemicals are poisonous
how can you avoid contamination? never return chemicals to their original containers.
should you pour a chemical over a sink or over a work area? always pour chemicals over a sink.
never heat glasswear that is not? thoroughly dry.
when diluting acid you should never? pour water into the acids.
why should you never reach across a flame? you could burn yourself or turn the flame over and start a fire
what should before and after every experiment? wash your hands with soap and warm water.
what are two main things you need to check before leaving the labatory? turn off all burners,and check that the gas line leading to the burners is off as well.
