Lab Safety

| 1. What do you do first before you begin the experiment? | Read the entire lab procedure before you begin the experiment. |
| 2. What do you do? | Only perform the assigned experiment when the teacher has given you permission to do so, and when the teacher is supervising. |
| 3.What should you know? | You should know where all the safety and emergency equipment is located in the lab. |
| 4.What should you bring? | Only bring necessary materials into the lab area; keep your work area uncluttered. |
| 5.What should you wear, always? | Always wear closed-toe shoes, safety goggles, a protective lab apron or lab coat, and protective gloves when working in the lab. |
| 6.What should you wear if you can? | Wear clothes made of cotton. Synthetic materials can melt onto your skin if they catch fire. |
| 7.What should you do if a chemical gets in your eye? | Go to an eyewash station and flush your eyes with water for at least 15 minutes and notify the teacher. |
| 8.What should you do before you start your experiment? | Tie back long hair, and rollupi loose sleeves. |
| 9.What should you never do? | Never eat, drink, or apply makeup in the lab. |
| 10. What should you never touch during an experiment? | You should never touch your face or eyes. |

| 12.What should you do after you complete your experiment? | Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. |
| 13. What should you never do when your working with chemicals? | Never taste any chemicals in the lab. |
| 14. How do you inhale gas or vapor? | Use your hand to waft the fumes toward your nose. |
| 15. What do you do when your dealing with water and acid? | Always pour an acid or base into water, not vice-versa. |
| 16. Glassware? | Do not use glassware with cracks and chips; ask the teacher for a replacement. |
| 17. Electrical Equipment? | Never use electrical equipment with a damaged cord. |
| 18. Heating chemicals in a test tube? | Point the opening of the test tube away from yourself and others. |
| 19. Getting hot objects? | Use tongs or insulted gloves to hold or pick up hot objects. |
| 20. Tell/ask your teacher... | -notify of any allergies or medical conditions that you may have -get permission before touching plants or animals. |
| 21. Don't/Never... | -Put any part of a wild plant in your mouth -Drink unpurified water. |
| 22. Wear? | Long pants, long sleeves, socks and closed-toe shoes. |
| 23. Not wear? | Contact lenses, baggy clothing or dangling jewelry. |
| 24. After the experiment... | -Dispose of all wastes and chemicals appropriately -Put away all lab tools, chemicals and equipment -Clean the area thoroughly -Wash your hands with soap and water. |
| 25. Disposing materials... | Always ask the teacher if you do not know where to dispose it. |
