What are the steps in general lab safety? -Read the whole lab procedure -Only perform the assigned experiment -Know where all your materials are at
What are the steps in personal lab safety? -Always wear closed toe shoes, safety goggles, a lab coat or apron, and protective gloves -Wear clothes made of cotton -Never eat or drink in the lab -Tie long hair back -Do not touch your face
What are the steps in chemical safety? -Never taste any chemicals in the lab -Don't inhale any gas or vapor -Always pour an acid into water -Report any chemical spill to your teacher
If your glassware has any cracks or chips in it what should you do? Ask your teacher for a replacement
After you been in a field experiment what should you do? Wash your hands
In field safety what should you never do alone? Wander off somewhere else
What is a trash can used for after an experiment? To dispose of dry, harmless materials. Always ask the instructor what materials you can throw in the trash can
What is the sink used for after an experiment? To only dispose of water do not pour chemicals in the sink
After a liquid chemical is used in an experiment it should be stored where? It should be stored in its appropriate waste bottle with a lid.
Before the experiment you should? -Know where fire exits, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eye washes, and waste disposal areas are located -Dress appropriately -Read the procedures -Check glassware and cords
During the experiment you should? -Ask the teacher if you don't understand the experiment. -Don't eat or drink. -Tell the teacher if a chemical spills. -Keep your hands away from you mouth, eyes, face, and body. -If a chemical gets in your eye go to the eye wash and flush it out for 1
After the experiment you should? -Dispose of all chemicals appropriately -Put away all lab tools, chemicals, and equipment -Clean the whole area. -Wash your hands with soap and water
After biological substances are used they should be what? Sealed and placed in a biohazard container
The lab instructor will dispose of waste when? After the lab is complete
What are the three ways for an experiment? Before, during, and after
Only bring what kind of materials to the experiment? Necessary
What do you wear during field safety? Long pants, long sleeves, and closed toe shoes

The before the experiment phase is really important because? It helps you get ready for the experiment and it would help you be safe
Why is it important read the procedures before an experiment? So you will know what to do during the experiment and to see what materials you will need
Why would you pour an acid into water instead of vice-versa? So that the mixing process will work better.
