Lab Safety

QuestionAnswer
What do goggles mean? Any harmful chemicals to the eyes.
What is the eye wash station used for? To ash out any harmful chemicals in your eyes.
Where would the band-aids, or medical equiptment be located in? A First-Aid kit
What is an example of chemical safety? Never taste any chemicals in the lab.
What is an example of glassware saftey? Do not use glassware with cracks and chips; ask the teacher for a replacement.
What is an example of electrical safety? Never use electrical equipment with a damaged cord.
WHta would you use glove for? To pick up anything that is hot.
Feild Safety.... Notify the teacher of any allergies or medical conditions that you may have prior to going into the field.
Why would you wear closed toed shoes? incase any harmful chemicals would get on your feet
Why would girls need to tir their hair back? So no chemicals or anyhting would get in their hair during an experiemtn.
What is the sink used for in a lab? For disposal of any liquids used in a laberatory.
Why would label chemicals? So you do not mix them up.
What is a Biohazard? A risk to human health or the environment arising from biological work.
What does the red circle with the line through the middle mean? Does not apply
Why don't you bring food in a lab? Its not safe to eat in a lab.
Chemical safety.... NEVER taste anything in a lab.
Chemical safety.... Do not directly inhale any gas or vapor; use your hand to waft the fumes toward your nose.
Chemical safety.... Always pour an acid or base into water, not vice-versa. Use the mnemonic A&W to help you remember that you should add Acid to Water, not water to acid.
Why do you wanna report any chemical spill to a teacher or adult? The chemicals can be very dangerous
Chemical Safety.... Avoid contaminating stock solutions; never return unused chemicals to their original container.
Why would you always read every direction in a lab? If you miss something it may be something VERY important.
When you perform an experiment who should be supervising you? A adult or teacher.
Keep your area work uncluttered because.... you dont want to spill anything.
Know where your emergency equiptment is so... Incase of an emergency you know where to go.
When experiment is done you should wash your hands because... you might have harmful chemicals on them and not know it.
