QuestionAnswer
What is a balance? A tool used to measure the mass of objects.
What is a graduated cylinder? A beaker marked in intervals that is used to measure volume.
What is a microscope? A tool used to produce magnified images of small objects.
What is a spring scale? A tool used to measure weight and force.
What is a Thermometer? A tool used to measure temperature.
What is a test tube? A cylindrical tube, usually smaller than a beaker, that is open at one end and closed at the other.
What are variables? All factors that can change in an experiment.
What is a controlled experiment? An experiment in which only one variable is changed at a time.
What is a manipulated variable? The variable that is purposely changed to test a hypothesis.
What is a independent variable? They are also called Manipulated variables.
What is a responding variable? The factor that may change in response to the manipulated variable.
What is a dependent variable? They are also called responding variables.
What is a constant? It is a controlled variable.
What is a hypothesis? A scientific explanation for a set of observations.
What is an inference? A logical interpretation based on what scientists already known.
What do tables and graphs used for? Scientists use them as a tool to organize and present information.
What is a control group? It is exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except for one independent variable.
What is a circle graph? They are best used to show how a whole is divided into part (or percentages of a whole).
What is a bar graph? They are best used for counting and to show how a number f objects or events co pare in relationship to a single property.
What is a line graph? They are best used to show a relationship between two measured quantities, usually as a trend over time.
Why do we do experiments? To test hypotheses.
What is data in a experiment? Information collected from observations and experiment?
What are the steps in the scientific method? 1.Identify the problem 2.Research the problem 3.Form a hypothesis 4. Collect data 5.Analyze data 6.A conclusion.
What is a theory? A well-tested explanation that unifies a broad range of observations and hypotheses, and enables scientists to make accurate predictions about new situations.
What is a bias? A particular preference or point of view that is personal, rather than scientific.
