| Variable | something that changes. |
| Problem | A question to be considered, solved or answered |
| Hypothesis | A hypothesis is a tentative explanation that accounts for a set of facts and can be tested by further investigation. |
| Experiment | An experiment is a test under controlled conditions that is made to demonstrate a known truth, or examine the validity of a hypothesis |
| Question | topic into question form that will be answered by your research |
| Research | background information related to variables, theories and any previous experiments. |
| Hypothesis | an answer to the question based off of research. In an "If...., then..." format. |
| Experiment | the actual testing that you will conduct . It is your materials and procedure including your constants, control, and variables. |
| Analysis | the data you have collected usually displayed in a graph. |
| Conclusion | an interpretation of the data that explains the connection between the variables and the validity of the hypothesis and experiment. |
| Law | A statement about how the natural world behaves for which no exceptions have ever been found. |
| Theory | An explanation based on observations and experimentation that has been tested and confirmed as a general explanation for a phenomena. |
| Independent variable | part of the experiment that is purposely changed; the presumed cause. |
| Dependent variable | part of the experiment that depends on the outcome of the independent variable and is measured; the presumed effect. |
| Constants | part of the experiment that remains the same during all trials to ensure no other variables alter the results. |
| Control | Part of the experiment to be used as a standard of comparison. |
| controlled experiment | an experiment in which all conditions. |
| analysis | studying the data. |
| science process skills | used to gather information. |
| senses | sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. |
| contrast | look for ways two things are different. |
| scientific method | a series of steps followed to solve a problem. |
| procedure | step by step directions for carrying out. |
| conclusion | a statement that answers the question asked |
