QuestionAnswer
mitochondria makes ATP (energy) by respiration, has its own DNA
ribosome perform protein synthesis, float around in the cytosol and attached to rough ER
endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein transport, attached to the nucleus, can be rough (with ribosomes) or smooth
golgi apparatus packaging center of the cell, looks like a stack of pancakes, AKA golgi body, golgi complex
vesicle importer/exporter of the cell, works with golgi to transport things out of the cell
nucleus dark colored center of the cell, contains the DNA
cytosol the jelly-like fluid inside the cell, AKA cytoplasm
cell membrane phospholipid bilayer, selectively permiable - decides what goes in and out of the cell
nucleolus assembles ribosomes
nuclear membrane membrane surrounding the nucleus (has pores to allow substances to pass through)
vacuole storage for the cell (bigger in plant than in animal cells)
chloroplast makes energy for the plant cell by the process of photosynthesis
lysosome "digestive system" of the cell
cell wall supports and protects the cell, mostly in plants - made of cellulose
chromosomes contains genetic information - only in eukaryotes (prokaryotes have cyclic DNA)
cilia many hair-like fibers outside the cell to aid with cell movement and attachment (animal cells only)
flagella whip-like structure that propel cells
centriole helps with cell division (spindle fibers) animal cell only
cytoskeleton provides support and shape for animal cell

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
