| latitude | distance in degress norht and south of the equator |
| longitude | distance in degress east or west of the prime meridian |
| mantle | thin layer of tissue that covers a mollusk's body and that can secrete a shell |
| lava | molten rock flowing onto Earth's surface |
| map legend | explains the meanings of symbols used in a map |
| equator | imaginary line that wraps around Earth at 0 latitude, halfway between the south and south poles |
| gas | matter that has no shape or volume. air, oxygen are some examples. |

| solid | matter that has a shape and volume. Ice cube is an example of a solid. |
| prime meridian | imaginary line that represents 0 longitude and runs from the north pole through Greenwich, England, to the south ploe. |
