what are the contents of an animal cell? nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane
what are the contents of a plant cell? nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, chloroplasts, vacuole, cell wall.
what does the nucleus do? controls all the activities in the cell
what does the cytoplasm do? this is where the chemical reactions take place
what does the cell membrane do? controls what enters and exits the cell
what does the chloroplast do? contains chlorophyll (a green pigment which absorbs light energy). chloroplasts are the organelles which are used for photosynthesis.
what does the vacuole do? its a bag full of cell sap (water with salts dissolved in it) the vacuole supports the cell when its full of sap
what does the cell wall do? its made of cellulose and provides protection and support for the cell
what is diffusion? diffusion is the movement of molecules from a high concentration to a low concentration
what is osmosis? osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a high water concentration to a low water concentration
what is mitosis? mitosis is the process where cells divide to produce an identical cell. it is used for growth and repair in both plants and animals (think protein). each new cell is identical to the last so that it can function properly.
what controls mitosis? the nucleus
