Text Features
| Question | Answer |

| Title | Introduces the topic (or main idea) of the passage. |
| Heading | Description of what will be read in a section. |
| Captions | Words underneath a picture or photograph that explain what it is or is about. |
| Graphs/Charts/Maps | Visual information to help with understanding. |
| Diagrams | Drawing of the parts of something. |
| Bold-faced text | Dark words, calls attention to important words or terms;also shows which words can be found in the glossary. |
| Italics | Words that are slanted; calls attention to important words or terms; these words can be found in the dictionary. |
| Subheadings | Under the heading. These break the information into smaller parts. |
| Underlining | Lines under words or phrases that draw attention to important information. |
| Sidebars | Information to the side of the text that explains in more detail. |
| Numbered or Bulleted Lists | Organize information |
| Topic & Summary Sentences | Explain text and check for understanding. |
| Table of Contents | Located before the text. Helps locate information. |
