Ch. 8 Quiz Review

know this!!!!

QuestionAnswer
1. Where does the energy used in the Calvin cycle for making Carbohydrates come from? ATP made in the light reactions of photosynthesis.
2. What are the products of the light reactions of photosynthesis that provide energy for the Calvin cycle? ATP
3.What is the major atmospheric product of photosynthesis? Oxygen (O2).
4.What is suspended in the fluid stroma of chloroplasts? stacks of thylakoids called grana.
5.What are heterotrophs? Organisms that consume other organisms for energy.
6.Name 3 facts about the Calvin cycle of photosynthesis 1. Requires ATP and NADPH, 2. Makes glucose, and 3. Can occur in both light and dark conditions.
7.What are the products of photosynthesis? C6H12O6 + O2
8. What are the reactants of photosynthesis? CO2 + H20
9. What are the products of Cellular respiration? CO2 + H2O
10. What are the reactants of Cellular respiration? C6H12O6 + O2.
11. What is the role of chlorophyll in photosynthesis? Absorb light energy.
does the rate of photosynthesis increase? when light intensity increases, but only to a certain point.
13. What is a substance produced during photosynthesis that is used for the completion of cellular respiration? Oxygen (O2).
14. What is glycolysis? 1. A molecule of glucose is split, 2. Two molecules of pyruvic acid are made, and 3. Some(2) ATP is made.
15. What is made when muscles are exercised a lot in the absence of oxygen? lactic acid.
16. What are the TWO stages that make up cellular respiration? 1. Glycolysis and 2. Aerobic respiration.
17. How are glycolysis and aerobic respiration different? glycolysis occurs in the absence of oxygen and Aerobic Resp. occurs in the presence of Oxygen.
18. What equation is this; C6H12O6 + 6O2 + ADP + P--- 6CO2 + 6H20 + ATP? Cellular respiration
19. What is ATP? it's stored energy that is essential for a cell to perform all the tasks necessary for life.
20. What is the point of cellular respiration? breaks down food molecules to release stored energy.
21. Name the process that takes place when ORGANIC compounds are broken down in the absence of Oxygen? fermentation.
22. You try to grow some cells and find in the culture field a lot of lactic acid build up. Why? Not enuf Oxygen in the culture field
23. What is the Krebs cycle? During Cellular respiration, a two-carbon molecule combines with a four-carbon molecule to make citric acid and 2 ATP.
What is the electron transport chains end product? water (H20) and about 32 ATP.
25. Why do plant cells need both chloroplasts and mitochondria? B/c sugars are made in the chloroplasts. Theses sugars can be stored in the plant for later use, converted or broken down in aerobic respiration to make more ATP for the plant to use to meet its energy needs.
