Etiology of Type I results from destruction of Beta Cells due to autoimmune process
Cause of Type I is possibly viral or toxin
Predisposition of Type I is r/t human leukocyte antigns (HLA)
Onsent and progression of Type 1 is more acute and has more rapid onset
Type 1 Clinical Manifestations Rapid onset, Weight loss, Weakness/fatigue, Ketoacidosis, 3 P's
What are the 3 P's Polyuria, Polyphagia, Polydipsia
Untreated Type I leads to Ketoacidosis, N/V, lyte imbalance, Wt. loss, Muscle wasting, coma-death
