Antianxiety - used to decrease anxiety and treat anxiety disorders.
Antipsychotics - used to decrease psychotic symptoms and reduce aggression; psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, paranoid thinking, and poor reality control;(Neuroleptics)
Antihistaminics - used to decrease side effects of antipsychotic meds; (Dopamine agonists).
Antidepressants - used to decrease symptoms of depression, improve mood, and reduce vegetative signs of depression.
Mood Stabilizers - used to decrease manic symptoms and provide maintenance therapy for bipolar disorder.
PsychoStimulants - used to improve attention and decrease hyperactivity, distractibility, and impulsivity.
SedativeHypnotics - used to sedate in low does and induce sleep in high doses.
Anticholinergics Psychotropic Side effects: dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention, & constipation.
Cardiovascular Psychotropic Side effects: postural hypotension, arrhythmias, & tachycardia.
CNS Psychotropic Side effects: headache, sedation, & drowsiness.
Metabolic Psychotropic Side effects: weight gain, nausea, decreased appetite, & diarrhea.
PseudoParkinsonism drooling, lack of facial responsiveness, shuffling gait, & fine intention tremors (cogwheel phenomenon).
Hypnotics used to induce state of natural sleep, decrease periods of involuntary awakening and increase total sleep time.
