What is Mass movement? The down slope movement of loose sediments and weathered rock resulting from the force of gravity
What is a Creep? The slow, steady, downhill flow of loose, weathered Earth materials, especially soils.`
What is a Mudflow? Swiftly moving mixtures of mud and water.
What is a landslide? A rapid, down slope movement of Earth materials that occurs when a relatively thin block of loose soil, rock, and debris separates from the underlying bedrock
What is a Slump? When a mass of material in a landslide rotates and slides along a curved surface.
What is an Avalanche? Landslides that occur in mountainous areas with thick accumulations of slow
What is Deflation? The lowering of the land surface that results from the wind's removal of surface particles.
What is Abrasion? Occurs when particles such as sand rub against the surface of rocks or other materials.
What are Ventifacts? Rocks shaped by wind-blown sediments.
What is a Dune? A pile of wind-blown sand.
What is a Loess? Thick, wind blown silt deposits.
What is a Glacier? A large, moving mass of ice
What are Continental Glaciers? Glaciers that cover broad continent sized areas.
What is a Cirque? Deep depressions caused by valley glaciers
What is a Moraine? Ridges containing of till deposited by glaciers.
What is an Outwash Plain? Where the meltwater streams flow and deposit outwash from a glacier
What is a Drumlin? A glacier that moves over older moraines to form the material into elongated landforms.
What is an Esker? Long, winding ridges of layered sediments that are deposited by streams flowing under a melting glacier.
