Weather and Climate

Climate The average of all weather conditions through all seasons over a period of time
El Nino A short-term climate change that occurs every two to ten years
Greenhouse effect Process by which the earths atmosphere absorbs heat
local winds The winds dependent upon local changes in temperature
microclimate The climate of a very small area
prevailing winds The global winds that blow constantly from the same direction
air pressure The weight of air
atmosphere The layer of air that surrounds the Earth
condensation The process by which a gas changes back into a liquid
evaporation The process by which a liquid changes into a gas
humidity A measure of the amount of water
precipitation Any form of water that falls from clouds such as rain or snow
air mass a large body of air that has nearly the same termperature and humidity throughout
fronts the boundary between air masses
cumulus puffy clouds
stratus flat gray clouds (strat rhymes with flat)
cirrus look like commas or wisps of hair
