Succession The replacement of one community by another, at a single place over a period of time.
Primary Sucession Development of a community in a area that has not previously supported life. Example volcanoes, glaciers, sand dunes
Pioneer Species First organisms to appear in a new habitat, small and fast growing. Example weeds.
Secondary Sucession Replacement of species following a disruption of an existing community. Example fire, farming

Biome Large region characterized by a specific climate and certain kinds of plants and animal communities.
Symbiosis A relationship in which 2 different organism live in close association.

Omnivore Consumer that eats both plants and animals. Example is a bear.

Food Chain Flow of energy from one trophic level to the next.
Habitat Place where organisms or population of organisms live.
Population Organisms of the same species living in the same area
Biodiversity The number of species living in an ecosystem.
Photosynthesis Process takes carbon from the atmosphere.
Decomposition Process contributes to the formation of fossil fuels.
Fossil Fuels Example is remains of dead plants and animals.
