QuestionAnswer
Do bird's lungs expand? What is the complete cycle of air flow in a bird? No, they don't breathe into their lungs but through them. Airflow goes from their back air sacs to their lungs to their front air sacs and then out.
Is bird reproduction sexual or asexual? Sexual.
Why does the egg increase in size as it travels down the cloaca? Its gaingin Albumin.
What is cloaca? Where all the waste is excreted through.
where is Gods intelligent design seen in birds by the birds natural instict to build a nest
what are 3 functions of feathers 1. a lightweight covering that is also a great insulator 2. they provide a smooth streamline structure for flight 3. they make the wings broad so that the bird is able to fly
Why is bird urine a paste, what substance is it composed of, and through what structure is it secreted? Its 3000 times more concentrated, uric acid, kidneys.
Why do birds need more oxygen than mammals? So they can fly vigourously at high altitudes and not lose consciousness.
5 features of skeletal system reveal for flight? hollow bones, cross-bracing, 5% body weight, flexible clavicle, keel on the sternum
What are the 2 main flight muscles? Pect. Major & Minor
what is the calcium in the shell used for? its reabsorbed by the young to help produce bones.
what keeps the embryo upright in the shell? the chalaza, a dense twisted chord.
What is the main food source for the embryo? the yoke.
From what structurre does the embryo develop? germinal spot.
what senses are stonger/weaker in birds than mammals? they have stronger hearing and eyesight; but weaker smell and taste.
why do birds digest their food quickly? because of their small size and constant activity, abundant feul is needed.
what are the functions of the two main flight muscles? what structure are they attached to? the pectoralis major provides the bird with a powered downstroke. the pectoralis minor lifts the wings back up for the next downstroke. they are attached to the keel that juts out of the sternum.
What is the Nictiting Membrane? A transparent membrane that allows the bird to "blink" to moisten the eye but does not obstruct its vision.
why does the egg increase in size as it travels down the cloaca? the protien albumen is added to the egg
what is the main food source for the embryo? the yolk, a fat rich food source
How is the bird's lungs more efficient than the pig's lungs? 1) The birds lungs instead of just having one cycle of inhalation and exhalation it has two so that it can go into both the lungs and the airsacs. 2)The bird's lungs are able to conserve oxygen so that it can survive higher altitudes.
What keeps the embryo upright in the shell? The albumen and the chalaza
What is incubation? Does the male or the female incubate the egg? Incubation is keeping the eggs warm, and Normally and adult bird does this, it doesn't matter if it's a male or a female.
what senses are stronger/weaker in birds than mammals/ stronger-eyesight and hearing weaker-smell and taste
what are the main organs of digestion and what does each do? crop-storage stomach-regular digestion cloaca-waste elimination
Why is bird urine a paste, what substance is it composed of, and through what is it secreted? Is it concentrated in water, made of uric acid, and is excreted through the cloaca
Why do birds need more oxygen than humans? They have a higher metabolism so their heart beats faster
From what structure does the embryo develop? Germinal spot
What is the calcium in the shell used for? The production of bones
Is a birds reproduction sexual or asexual? Sexual
When do a birds lungs expand? Never
What are the three major organs or systems that the birds have and other mammals don't? The crop, the gizzard, and the cloaca.
What are some major differences between the bird's respiritory system and a pig's respiritory system? The bird's respiritory system contains air sacs which the air flows through, and eventually the air flows through, not into, the lungs, unlike a pig or other mammal in which the air just flows in and out of the lungs.
Where is God's intelligent design seen in birds? In the way they breath, eat, fly, and their skeletal design
What are 3 functions of feathers? For flying, movement in flight, and for insulation
What is the purpose of the chalaza? Where are the salt glands located?
