Acidosis A condition of reduced alkalinity of the blood and tissues. Causes sickly sweet breath, headache, vomiting and nausea, and visual disturbances. A result of excessive acid production.
Albumin heart coagulable water
Alkalosis an abnormal condition of increased alkalinity of the blood and tissues
Anemia a condition where the blood is deficient in red blood cells, in hemoglobin, or in total volume
Chemotaxis movement of an organism or cell in relation to chemical agents
fibrinogen a plasma protein that is produced in the liver and is converted into fibrin during blood clot formation
hematocrit total blood count
hematology the study of blood
hemolysis lysis of red blood cells with liberation of hemoglobin
hemophilia sex linked heredity blood defect, causes delayed clotting of the blood and difficulty in controlling hemorrhage even after minor injuries
hemopoiesis formation of blood cells
hemorrhage a copious discharge of blood from the blood vessels
hypoxia a deficiency of oxygen reaching the tissues of the body
leukocytosis an increase in the number of white blood cells in the circulating blood that occurs normally after meals or abnormally with some infections
leukopenia the number of white blood cells circulating in the blood is abnormally low most commonly due to a decreased production of new cells in conjunction with various diseases, as a reaction to various drugs or chemicals, or in response to irradiation
phagocyte a cell that engulfs or consumes foreign materials and debris
plasma the fluid part of blood, that consists of water and its dissolved constituents including proteins, electrolytes, sugars, lipids, metabolic waste products, ammino acids, hormones, and vitamins.
polycythemia condition of abnormal increase in the number of circulation red blood cells
serum the clear yellowish fluid that remains from blood plasma after fibrinogen, prothrobrin, and other clotting factors that have been removed by clot formation
globulin any of a class of simple proteins that occur widely in plant or animal tissue
