cell organelles

What are the functions of the cell organelles?

QuestionAnswer
Nucleus The control center of the cell. Contains the DNA.
mitochondria Powerhouse of the cell. Makes energy for the cell.
chloroplast plants only. Helps make the energy using sunlight.
ER Transportation system in the cell. Smooth will not have ribosomes on it, and Rough will have the ribosomes on it.
Ribosomes make the proteins
Golgi body Packages up proteins and other molecules so they can be moved around the cell.
Lysosome Breaks down and helps digest materials that are not needed in the cell.
Cytoplasm Material inside the cell, a gel like substance.
cell wall only in plant cells. Used for support and protection.
cell membrane in both plant and animal cells. Allows materials to pass in and out of the cell and acts as a barrier.
Vacuole Usually large in plant cells. May contain water foods or waste.
cell theory All living things are composed of cells. Cells are the units of function and structure of living organisms. Cells come from pre-existing cells.
Nucleolus produces ribosomes
