cell collection of living matter enclosed by a barrier that seperates the cell from its surroundings basic unit that forms life
cell theory idea that all living are composed of cells cells are the basic of structure and function in living things and new cells are produced from living cells
nucleus the center of the atom in which protons and nuetrons
eukaryotes organisms whose cells contain nuclei
prokaryotes cells that dont contain nuclei
organells liitle organs
cytoplasm is the portion of the cell outside the nuclei
nuclear envelope it surrounds the nucleus
chromatin the granual material you can see in the nucleus
chromosomes threadlike structures that contain the genetic info that is passed from one generation to another
nucleous dense region in the nucleus
ribosomes small particles in rna and protein found throughout the cyptoplasm
endoplasmic reticulum eukaryote cells also contain an internal mambrane system
golgi apparatus protiens produced in the rough ER move next to an organelle
lysomes small organelles filled with enzymes
vaculoes store materials such a swater salts proteins and carbohydrates
mitochondria are organelles that convert the chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convinient for the cell to use
chloroplasts are organelles that capture the energy from sunlight and convert it into the chemical energy in a process called photosyntheisis
cytoskeleton eukaryotic cells are given their shape and internal orginizations by supporting structure
centrioles are located near the nucleus and help organize cell division
cell membrane all cells surrounded aby a thick flexible layer
cell wall a strong supporting layer covering the cell
lipid bilayer the compoition of nearley all cell membranes is a double layered sheet
concetration the concentration of a solution is the mass solute given volume of a solution
diffusion when the particles tend to move to an area where they are less concentrated
equilibrium when the concentration of the solute is the same throughout a system the system
osmosis water passes quite easily across most membranes
istonic when two solutions are the same strength
hypertonic means above strength
hypotonic below strength
facilitated or to help diffuse the glucose
diffusion hundreds of different proteins chgannels that have been found
active transport cells sometimes must move materials in opposite direction
endocytosis is the process of taking material into the cell

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
