Bio#2

QuestionAnswer
Cell Were the basic units of life.
Cell Theory Fundamental concept of biology.
Nucleus Is a large membrance-enclosed structure that conains the cell's genetic material in the form of DNA.
Eukaryotes Cells that contain nuclei.
Prokareotes Cells that do not contain nuclei.
Organelles Specialized organisms "little organs"
Cytoplasm Is the portion of the cell outside the nucleus.
Nuclear envelope Is dotted with thousands of nuclear pores, which alows paterial to move into and out.
Chromatin Consists of DNA bound protein.
Chomosomes When cells divides, chromatin condense.
Nucleolus Where the assembly of ribosomes begins.
Ribosomes Small particales of RNA and protein found throughout the cytoplasm.
Endoplasmic Retitculm The site where lipids components of the cell membrance are assembled.
Golgi apparatus To modify, sort, and package proteins and other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum for storage of cell or secretion outside the cells.
Lysosmes Are small organelles filled with enzymes.
Vacuoles Store materials such as water, salts, proteins and carbohydrates.
Mitchondria Are organelles that convert the cemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use.
Chloralplast Capture energy from the sun for plants.
Cytoskeleton Network of protein filaments that help the cell to main tain its shape.
Centrioles In cell divion.
Cell Membrance A thin Flexible barrier where cells are surounded.
Cell Wall Doube layer sheet for the cell membrance.
Liquid Bilayer Two layers of lipids.
Concentration The mass of a solute in a given volume of solutions.
Diffusion Less concentrated.
Equilibrium Concentration of the solute is the same throughout a system.
Osmosis Water
Isotonic Same Strength
Hypertonic Above Strength
Hypotonic Below Strength
Facilitated Diffusion Molecules such as glucose that cannot diffuse across the cell membrance.
Endocytosis The process taking material into cell.
Phagocytosis "Cell Eating"
Pinoytosis Forms vacules
Exocytosis Membrance of the vacuole surrounding the material fuses with the cell membrance.
Cell Specialization Develop in different ways to perform different tasks.
Tissue Form a particular function.
Organ Groups of tissue.
Organ System A group of organs that work together to perform a specific function.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
