QuestionAnswer
What are arteries? Carry blood away from the heart, have muscular walls, and usually carry blood high in oxygen
What are veins? Carry blood to the heart, have valves, usually carry blood high in carbon dioxide.
What is ECG? Electrocardiogram
What is pulse? Arteries stretch and recoil to pressure of blood flow. 72 BMP can be felt at areas in the body where arteries are proximal to the skin surface.
What is the max HR? 220 - age
When do you need a pacemaker? When you have less than 40 BPM.
What is blood pressure? Pressure of blood against the wall of the blood vessel (120/80)
What is systolic? Pressure of blood ejected from the heart from ventricular contraction
What is diastolic? Pressure of blood from recoil of arterial wall happens during atrial contraction.
What is hypertension? High blood pressure systolic greater than 140; diastolic greater than 90.
What is atheroscerosis? Plaque build up clogs the artery can lead to serious conditions, cause can be genetic and/or poor diet.
Myocardial Infarction (MI)? Heart attack
Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)? Temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain.
What is stroke? Cerebro-vascular accident (CVA), blockage of blood flow to the brain (left side).
Congestive Heart Failure, what is it? Build up of fluid in the pericardia l sack.
What is Varicose veins? Hemorrhoids, failure of valves in veins.
What is phlebitis? Inflammation of the veins.
