QuestionAnswer
cells were the basic units of life
cell theory confirmed by other biologist are summarized
nucleus is a large membrane enclosed structure that contains the the cell genetic material
eukaryotes are cells the contain nuclei
prokaryotes are cells that do not contain nuclei
organelles literally a little organs
cytoplasm the portoin of the cell out side of the nucleus
nuclear envelope composed of two membranes
chromtain consist of dna bound proteins
chromosomes these structures contain the genetic information that is passed fromn one genertaion to the next
nucleolus nuclei also contain a small dense rergion known as
ribosomes are small particles of rna and proiteinm found throughout the cytoplasm
endoplasmic reticulum site where lipid compoents of the cell membrane are assembled along with proteins and other materials that are exported from the cell
golgi apparatus protiens produced in the rough er move next into an oranelle
lysosomes small organelles filled with enzymese
vacuoles some kinds of cells contains saclike structures
mitochondria are oranelles that convert the chemical energy storedin food in to compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use
chloroplasts organelles tht capture the energy from sunlight and convert it into chemical energy
cytoskeleton is a network of protein filaments tha thelps the cell to maintain its shape
centrioles located near the nucleas and help to cell division
cell menbrane surrounds the cell by a thin flexialbe barrier
cell wall many cell also produce a srtong supporting layer around the membrane
lipid bilayer comosition of nearly all cell membranes is a double-layered
concentration a solution is the mass of solute in a given volume of solution ,or mass /volume
diffusion particles tend to move from an area where they are more concentrated to an area where they are less concentrated
equilibrium concentrtion of thesolute is the same throughout a system the system has reached
osmosis is the diffusion of water through a selectivly permeable membrane
isotonic water and sugar will be the same on both siudes of the membrane
hypertonic when the experimentbegan the more concertrated sugar solution above strength as comparedto the dilute sugar solution
hypotonic the dilute sugar solution was below strength
facilitated diffusion these cell membrane channels are also said to facilitate or help the diffusion of glocose across the membrane
active transport powerful as diffusion is cell somtimes must move materials in h oppsite direction against a concentration difference
endocytosis is the proces of taking material into the cell by mean s of infoldings or pockets of the cell membrane
phagocytosis extensions of cytoplasm surround a particle and package it within a food vacuole
pinocytosis tiny pockets from along the cell membrane fiull with liquid and pich off to form vacuoles within the cell
exocytosis many cells also release large of material from the cell
cell specialization cell through out an organism can develop in different way to perform different tasks
organ many gruops of tissues work together
organ system a group pf organs that work together to perform a specific function

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
